Saturday Jan 29

Damn, more snow (over a foot) this week and more in the forecast. At this rate we won't see the ground till June! But a small group of us met again Saturday morning at eight AM for an hour of 8 v. 8 at the dome. Once again, thanks to Keith for organizing the game, wish we could do more.

Saturday January 22, 2011

5 below this morning and the snow from Christmas hasn't budged. In fact there have been several more storms on top of that one and more in the forecast. Oh well, winter sucks.

Keith took it upon himself to contact the Super Dome, and arrange for some Saturday morning indoor meetings. Last week I was away, but 17 guys showed up and had a spirited match. This week we had the limit of 16 players, for a high speed hour of footy. Great fun, good to get the heart rate up and nice to see the guys again. More indoor matches to come with a strict 8v8 limit, first come first served. Maybe some Monday or Friday matches will be added. Thanks Keith!

Happy New Year!

With the magic carpet still covered by snow, I took a few minutes to review the past year. We were only snowed out 5 times, and rained out but twice. We were booted off the turf several times, mostly in the spring, until we realized we can start early and still get a quorum. There were as many as 12 extra curricular games plus a charity event. We played Wednesday evenings in January, July and August. The summer evenings were brutally hot, but pretty well attended.

Almost all the regular Sunday morning games had great weather and full teams or more. Almost every game started with short sides with stragglers coming in late. With the demands on the turf field this spring, we should strive to be more prompt, ie: be on time! We should be more pro-active about starting early when there's a conflict with other teams so we don't wind up on the goose poop or Traphagen field. And lets get back to Wednesday night games.

A big plus this year was meeting at the AB&G to watch the world cup games. Our annual holiday get together at Nellie's was a hit. Please start planning to participate in this year's Thanksgiving morning turkey trot 5k race in Upper Saddle River. Thanks to Rocco for collecting fees and buying shirts. We're here to help, Rocc, just ask. I'm optimistic about next Sunday, the snow is melting slowly but surely. I look forward to playing with my old buddies and the new guys too. In the fifteen or so years I have been participating, our group has become a big part of what's good about living in NJ.

Peace. \/
